@What Would Jack Conte Do? well furst senate is part of congress
But yes
House is based on districts in a state. Senate is state wide vote. Because originally the senate was state representation appointed by the states to defend state rights in congress. After reconstruction of the civil war the federalists changed it to a vote of the people
And fyi cities and suburbs have more districts than outside of it mainly due to gerrymandering.
@What Would Jack Conte Do?
The House and Senate are different chambers.
Originally the Senate was elected by the state legislatures as their representatives to the federal government, and the house was elected by the people of the states as their representative.
Hence why each state sends 2 to the Senate, but the house is split up by population distribution.
But as Floki said, the Senate is now also elected by the people instead of being sent by the states, unfortunately.
@Goblin_Slayer_Floki We really do need to repeal the 14nth amendment.
And the fact of house being district based and senate by whole state means there can be wide outcomes
yep
The reason the senate went one way and the house the other is because the senators are elected every 6 years, the reps every 2. All 435 reps were up for re-election, only 33 senators were
The only admendment worth a damn after the 10th is maybe the 22nd
Of those 33 senators, most were blue, so with more to lose and less to gain, some flipped red and as such they lost seats
Naw senate being state vs house district is the bigger reason
The last time they were elected, Obama’s name was on the ballot, too, which helped them
Which is why a state can send republican house but democrat senate and vise versa
Oregon and washington sends 3 to 4 republican reps. But always a dem senator for instance
Hell cali sends usually 8 to 10 republicans to house
Yes, but the same is true in reverse for Texas
Thats what vise versa means
Texas sent 13 dems to the house (2 suburbes that flip back and forth did)
But sent a republican to the senate
Mhm. It also doesn’t help republicans that in the states where they have the majority, they have it by a lot less than when the dems have a majority
It doesn't help that a majority of all minorities, vote based on identity, instead of merit
That too
