2017-12-22 21:06:24 UTC

That's exactly what I needed to see

2017-12-22 21:08:50 UTC

I would hope not

2017-12-22 21:09:30 UTC

Nothing like a burning temple to brighten up a boring day

2017-12-22 21:13:41 UTC

Hard to believe it's a Friday

2017-12-22 21:13:48 UTC

I've only been home for a week

2017-12-22 21:22:01 UTC

Where is home?

2017-12-22 21:28:19 UTC

Central Illinois

2017-12-22 21:28:48 UTC

Cool

2017-12-22 21:28:59 UTC

been away for long?

2017-12-22 21:29:12 UTC

Its always nice to be back in your own bed, etc

2017-12-22 21:30:53 UTC

Not long enough

2017-12-22 21:31:09 UTC

I see

2017-12-22 21:31:23 UTC

I was on vacation last weekend

2017-12-22 21:31:40 UTC

Got to see that Nathan Bedford Forrest monument in Memphis just a few days before they took it down

2017-12-22 21:31:51 UTC

That was unfortunate

2017-12-22 21:32:04 UTC

I remembered you saying they couldn't take it down

2017-12-22 21:32:16 UTC

yeah because of state law

2017-12-22 21:32:51 UTC

so they sold the whole park to a shell corporation set up a month ago and run by one of the County Commissioners, for $1000

2017-12-22 21:32:57 UTC

in secret

2017-12-22 21:33:24 UTC

Is that even legal?

2017-12-22 21:33:35 UTC

You can't sell private property can you?

2017-12-22 21:33:41 UTC

I mean public

2017-12-22 21:34:53 UTC

no it isn't legal

2017-12-22 21:36:03 UTC

They broke a bunch of laws, including sunshine laws requiring public meetings for selling property,no Environmental Impact study was done, and Conflict of Interest laws because they sold it below market value to a company owned by one of the commissioners who voted for it

2017-12-22 21:36:34 UTC

The state government will file suit and the courts will smack Memphis down, probably fines and punitive damages

2017-12-22 21:36:59 UTC

They may or may not be able to invalidate the sale and put the statue back, I'm not a lawyer

2017-12-22 21:38:43 UTC

The question is even will they

2017-12-22 21:38:59 UTC

The funny thing about laws is that they don't enforce themselves

2017-12-22 21:39:13 UTC

Call it blackpilled, but my guess is that nothing will get done

2017-12-22 21:39:22 UTC

I hope im wrong on that

2017-12-22 21:39:46 UTC

The state government is the one that made that law specifically to stop Memphis from taking the statue down

2017-12-22 21:40:29 UTC

Then let's hope they don't cuck

2017-12-22 21:40:32 UTC

Morality of the statue aside, state governments don't like the precedent set when cities overrule them
