"You just joined the treasury department."
Why the treasury department?

@Str3tch For those who are just coming back, please note that the server was victim to a vegan terrorist agent who destroyed much of it and stamped the entire server with pro-lettuce messaging. If you have lost a role as a consequence, please contact a GMO or me and we will give you back your role!
i lost my role in an act of pro lettuce attack
what role was that?
As part of my assignment on event planning, I have to extensive research on which locations are more likely to be hit with terror attacks, and what we would actually do if we were caught in some sort of bombing.
@Weaboo Kempeitai iirc, Treasury Department was the department which enforced alcohol prohibition. It also concerned the IRS which was invented around that same time. I'm a bit vague, though, so it might be better to actually look this up.
i was a R type for a bit @Str3tch but it was mainly a joke

@Miniature Menace I thought he'd be guarding gold or something
nah, basically, when federal prohibition was passed, it was with the caveat that they would create a federal income tax to make up for the revenue losses on whiskey

and when prohibition was ended, they never repealed this tax
it was basically one of those departmental jurisdiction quirks on the surface, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was something else going on there, as well
i thought income tax was passed to fund WWI?
I mean with the treasury department being what handled prohibition

@HemRoy5 Sorry, details were a bit fuzzy. There was an association with the events, but they weren't passed at the same time. Federal Income Tax was passed in 1913, but was then used to make up the revenue losses, and provided more leverage for prohibition. In its initial form, the income tax didn't apply to most people, as they did not meet the earnings requirements, but I suspect this was changed around the time prohibition was passed.
"Two other amendments to the Constitution were championed by dry crusaders to help their cause. One was granted in the Sixteenth Amendment (1913), which replaced alcohol taxes that funded the federal government with a federal income tax.[57] The other was women's suffrage, which was granted after the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment in 1920; since women tended to support prohibition, temperance organizations tended to support women's suffrage.[57]"
