This whole Wuhan pandemic panic, following on from VA boogaloo, following on from WW3, etc. etc. They're all 4chan tier habbenings that are fun and feed you a bit of dopamine but it's identical to the rage bait that the left always indulges in and the right gets sucked in to on moral issues. Outrage is fine, being aware of global issues is fine, but the internet, our connectedness and social media in particular makes us internalise it way more than justified.
So for self improvement, consider dealing with your addition to habbenings and your tendencies to seek out and engage in collective outrage. Try and find a more balanced state.
Start by shifting your mindset: there are two circles, one inside the other. The larger circle is your circle of concern. It's the sphere of all things you concern yourself with, mainly the things you deal with on an emotional level. The things that make you outraged and the things you obsessively seek out information on.
The inner circle is your circle of influence. It's the sphere within which you can exert control, the space where you can meaningfully impact change.
A major problem among connected people today is that the circle of concern is massive, far too big. Coupled with lies we tell ourselves about how big our circle of influence is.
@arg so basically be less emotional and watch your ego
because they are both lies
Your circle of influence us fairly small. You can rage in social media but you may as well be raging into a mirror. You're not changing anything.
Your circle of concern drives your mental and emotional health. If you can't do anything about it, do you want it eating away at you? Saturating your system with dopamine and other stress hormones?
Be enraged at the things that impact you and your loved ones. Go deal with the drag queen story hour they're enforcing on your kids. But don't spend your days glued to the internet looking for tiny snippets of information about habbenings that are going to have exactly zero impact on your real life. You have so many better ways of spending your time. Go work out, get buff, lose weight, read the western cannon, sort yourself out.
