heres another story: so my brother has a daughter who is about to turn 4

and my wifes mom met her when she was 3

and my wifes mom has a baby in their family who is also 3 in china (like a cousins baby or something)

and the differences are staggering

the chinese baby looks malnourished, barely speaks, can barely do anything

they treat her like an infant newborn

my brothers daughter at that time had full conversations, opinions, could get her own food, could clean, run full speed etc.

i mean it was fucking staggering.

i think id have a hard time living in asia

meanwhile, from my end

she couldnt understand why there was such a big difference between the two - she said it was genetics, but i disagree

so my uncle got married recently

I attended the ceremony and everything, etc

first thing he does after the ceremony is call me

I drive to his house from the wedding place

and he tells me to roll around on his bed like a dog

I asked him "why the fuck" and he said it was for getting a firstborn son

does your wife's family believe in things like this too?

there are a lot of chinese wedding traditions

some of them are kind of fun - some are kind of weird

i havent asked my wifes mom if she actually believes in it

she probably does, shes pretty stupid

if anything she'd want us to do it for traditions sake

when i first heard about the chinese traditions before weddings where the family blocks the door to the bride in a room and they break down the door almost and have to pay money to the family to get access to the room

i thought it was really really crazy

and then i experienced it first hand at one of her friends weddings

and it was actually pretty fun and light hearted

so im cool with that

the bride and her friends hide in a room and to come inside the groom has to answer trivia about the relationship or the bridge
