the point to tampering with the hash of a file isn't to plant the checksum value on your computer thats retarded
the illegality of CP is the content not what checksum value the content hashes to
you "swap hashes" on something in order to make a malware infected / bogus software match the hash of the official one when distributing it, and doing so takes an enormous amount of computing power and the attack is really only possible in theory anyway
md5 is considered broken now a days because it is now feasible to do this with an md5 hash, but most applications that verify integrity with a hash now use sha1 or something else
