I can't help but wonder how that ratio is being skewed by worthless shit degrees.
But you're working with median values. Instead, apply common sense: uni is only cost effective for higher paying careers that require a great deal of study... and those are more likely to be stem fields. Everything else is either an indulgence, or can be juat as effectively taught viab ojt, vocational schools, apprenticeships, etc.

my point was simply, the typical college kid will make zero use of a degree
not that the entirety of the system is bad

But yeah, i do think the system needs an overhaul... or at least bring back vocational schools. Overpriced and worthless degrees with a culture of implied obligatory college.
I wasted a lot of money paying out of pocket... nobody told me i didn't have to go, let alone that i should wait until i knew what i wanted to do
see, technical school kids (that replace highschool) out earn 4 year college students by almost 20k
