But honestly, and I'm readying myself for controversy here, my favourite source for reference use is still straight out of the iPhone dongle. It has near zero output impedance, near zero noise floor, dead neutral in signature (so signature matching is a non-issue) and much less of a hassle to lug around. And this saying so even after having tried almost every DAP out there from the M0 to the SP1000, as well as exotics like the PCM-D1.
