I would argue society expects men to work a lot harder, even die, for the city vs women. It's different demands.

I don't think society expects women to take up arms and raise militias, but I don't see society demanding men do that either.

But men naturally gravitate towards that.

I would say the prior expectations were more strict, and thats what lead to the "liberation"/egalitarian movements. Instead of coming up with a more generalized set of standards though, we seem to be largely half-stumbling over the old ones while simultaneously trying to tear expectations down

I think that expectations for a society based on gender are helpful. But I'm also a fan of bringing back social shame.
I was a fatty for a long time, and I dressed like an edge lord.
That is until I met my husband, he's the most honest person I know..to a fault almost. He expects me to maintain self control over my eating and to be the feminine counterpart he needs.
