so does belief = religion?

2018-06-15 02:40:33 UTC

thats more my question

2018-06-15 02:40:37 UTC

Thats biological instinct not belief

2018-06-15 02:40:58 UTC

is the rain " superhuman controlling power"

2018-06-15 02:40:58 UTC

then I'd say it's any belief in the supernatural

2018-06-15 02:41:11 UTC

that's also shared amongst a group

2018-06-15 02:41:13 UTC

I think the bides belive it is

2018-06-15 02:41:18 UTC

*birds

2018-06-15 02:41:38 UTC

so is religion an instinct run a mock?

2018-06-15 02:42:16 UTC

I think the most basic reason to have religion (in an evolutionary sense) is in order to not kill yourself because we're all gonna die anyway

2018-06-15 02:42:33 UTC

well 'religion' in the more modern sense..........are man made instutions

2018-06-15 02:42:43 UTC

I think it's to help facilitate meaning in order to make life worthwhile

2018-06-15 02:42:58 UTC

^^

2018-06-15 02:42:59 UTC

not even to make it worthwhile, but to see cause and effect in nature

2018-06-15 02:43:38 UTC

the trees grow because the tree gods willed them to

2018-06-15 02:44:10 UTC

or perhaps each tree is a lesser spirit under the guidance of a forest god

2018-06-15 02:44:21 UTC

either way lol

2018-06-15 02:44:42 UTC

i think very strong beliefs of u-understood knowledge is basically religion, which predates humans.......to answer your question....

2018-06-15 02:44:54 UTC

*un-

2018-06-15 02:45:00 UTC

misunderstood?

2018-06-15 02:45:08 UTC

un-understood

2018-06-15 02:45:14 UTC

not understood

2018-06-15 02:45:25 UTC

gotcha

2018-06-15 02:45:29 UTC

I don't think you can say religion exists if people can't communicate that religion to each other, and that would apply to animals

2018-06-15 02:45:44 UTC

The bids know nothing of precipitation, evaporation, boiling tempature......

2018-06-15 02:45:46 UTC

and religion does require worship

2018-06-15 02:45:49 UTC

*birds

2018-06-15 02:45:55 UTC

there's a difference between religion and superstition

2018-06-15 02:46:01 UTC

only that rain = worms

2018-06-15 02:46:30 UTC

but do the birds actively worship a rain god in hopes he will grant them a blessing?

2018-06-15 02:46:31 UTC

do the birds not pray for rain?

2018-06-15 02:46:35 UTC

yes but they don't "think" about that cause and effect, their instincts just bring them in the direction of the worms because they evolved to doso

2018-06-15 02:46:58 UTC

i suspect they perfom 'rituals' so that they find the lands in which there is rain....

2018-06-15 02:47:06 UTC

evidence?

2018-06-15 02:48:54 UTC

i think our brains are too big. stuff starts to form on it's own. pattern recognition engine never stops to work. that's why so many people are susceptible to conspiracies and religion.

2018-06-15 02:49:37 UTC

I think you could definitely say that there's an adaptive reason for that

2018-06-15 02:49:47 UTC

but not a genetic one**

2018-06-15 02:50:01 UTC

yeah beliefs and religion are not genetic

2018-06-15 02:50:08 UTC

it would be a behavioral adaptation

2018-06-15 02:50:13 UTC

fair enough eric.......but look at any animal........what they thrive for (an ideal) & the repeating (sorry should be better word).....actions they do....

2018-06-15 02:50:41 UTC

I don't know if you could even say that animals "thrive"
