it would be a behavioral adaptation

2018-06-15 02:50:13 UTC

fair enough eric.......but look at any animal........what they thrive for (an ideal) & the repeating (sorry should be better word).....actions they do....

2018-06-15 02:50:41 UTC

I don't know if you could even say that animals "thrive"

2018-06-15 02:50:41 UTC

a lot of what drives animals to do what they do is instinct

2018-06-15 02:50:56 UTC

butterflies go to S. America........is it instinct, or religion?

2018-06-15 02:51:02 UTC

just like we can't control vitamin D forming in our skin, we can't control patterns forming in our brains

2018-06-15 02:51:03 UTC

instinct

2018-06-15 02:51:10 UTC

why?

2018-06-15 02:51:13 UTC

its like salmon spawning season

2018-06-15 02:51:16 UTC

whats the difference?

2018-06-15 02:51:27 UTC

I mean I love my dog, but my dog only loves me in so far as I can provide it food and shelter. That's instinct

2018-06-15 02:51:36 UTC

religion requires the ability to abstract

2018-06-15 02:51:47 UTC

There is a fat at the end of the river which the salmon cannot exlain, only that he knows he must go there

2018-06-15 02:51:59 UTC

yeah thats instinct

2018-06-15 02:52:10 UTC

you may not understand chuch but you know you should show up on sundays?

2018-06-15 02:52:16 UTC

*god

2018-06-15 02:52:30 UTC

Religion would be if the salmon actually had an inner monologue where it said that the end of the river is the path to righteousness

2018-06-15 02:52:52 UTC

there is no evidence one way or the other

2018-06-15 02:53:08 UTC

well we cant study thought

2018-06-15 02:53:13 UTC

or consciousness

2018-06-15 02:53:14 UTC

I think religion is that compelling...

2018-06-15 02:53:38 UTC

You only need evidence to prove positive claims, not to disprove them

2018-06-15 02:53:43 UTC

biological.....concesious............its the same thing

2018-06-15 02:53:59 UTC

I think the desire to believe in something greater is ingrained in humanity. Thats why Nietzsche said that with the death of god, humanity needs to find it's own purpose

2018-06-15 02:54:00 UTC

*instict

2018-06-15 02:54:15 UTC

consciousness is not the same as instinct

2018-06-15 02:54:34 UTC

I belive its ingrained in humans because the birds believe in the rain god....

2018-06-15 02:54:51 UTC

what makes you think the birds believe in the rain god?

2018-06-15 02:54:57 UTC

but how do you know the birds believe in a rain god

2018-06-15 02:55:04 UTC

perhaps is the god of harvest?

2018-06-15 02:55:07 UTC

i dont know it

2018-06-15 02:55:12 UTC

again

2018-06-15 02:55:21 UTC

rain = worms = food

2018-06-15 02:55:33 UTC

where does god come into that

2018-06-15 02:55:57 UTC

maybe birds just believe in rain

2018-06-15 02:56:03 UTC

lol

2018-06-15 02:56:09 UTC

again, are birds even capable of believing

2018-06-15 02:56:19 UTC

sorry, trying to flesh this out for myself

2018-06-15 02:57:06 UTC

how can we prove that birds know the rain is what causes the worms to rise?

2018-06-15 02:57:14 UTC

...thanks for being cool through the process >.<

2018-06-15 02:57:15 UTC

maybe they just take advantage of the situation
