forcing diversity is a pointless effort. the people will either be miserable or not be the best candidate. let people go where they want to and they should fall where they deserve to be in the pecking order as far as skill and experience.

It is more about poverty than freedom.

STEM is a guaranteed meal ticket in those countries.

So women feel it is the best options.

When you can be anything else reliably, they will not choose STEM generally.

It's not that women can't work outside of STEM in Russia, they can be teachers or secretaries if they want. But those are not as reliable employment.

Also, being a STEM employee makes it super easy to get immigration papers to the US.

Those aren't different things...... If you need more money, you have less freedom to make different choices that you may prefer.

True, but is the limitation of poverty not so much the government, but you are right, property/capital = freedom in most situations.

You can have money but have no freedom of movement and speech, but you can have no money and have all the freedom of movement and speech. Wealth and Freedom have similar benefits, but you can have one without the other.

I would say they are not "very free", but ya, close to what you said.

But with Arab women, because so many of them are homemakers, only women who have the desire and the privilege to work do, so a larger percentage of them are not squandering that opportunity and enter fields that pay well.
