If you have a problem with a tv show interpretation of a story not being faithful to the source material when it pertains to skin color is it racist? Or can it just be because it's not faithful to source material?

2019-12-21 02:09:54 UTC

Its a red flag for shitty storytelling.

2019-12-21 02:10:13 UTC

Because 9/10 its white to black / woman / gay and its done purely for politics not story.

2019-12-21 02:10:30 UTC

But mostly its just a red flag for garbage. Like one of those colored frogs that shits poison.

2019-12-21 02:10:39 UTC

how do you mean?

2019-12-21 02:10:48 UTC

It's in reference to Witcher btw haha

2019-12-21 02:11:05 UTC

Yeah, read the twitter of the writers and why they wanted to swap races.

2019-12-21 02:11:08 UTC

I got into it with a friend who is adamant that it's racist

2019-12-21 02:11:18 UTC

Sure maybe they're not blue hair cat ladies that are going to pile drive that storyline into the ground.

2019-12-21 02:11:29 UTC

And maybe my dad will finally find those cigarettes and play ball with me.

2019-12-21 02:11:35 UTC

But neither of those things are gonna happen.

2019-12-21 02:11:52 UTC

A lot of people are liking the show to be fair

2019-12-21 02:12:16 UTC

We got a good meme from it

2019-12-21 02:12:25 UTC

My friend just thinks in absolutes and he's convinced if you have a problem with some of the people in the witcher being darker skinned that it's absolutely racist

2019-12-21 02:13:16 UTC

because it didn't explicitly say in the books "everybody is white"

2019-12-21 02:13:34 UTC

He probably says its racist because the person said they changed the skin tone because they say they hate white people and to some people thats a racist statement, and they're tired of PC bullshit.

2019-12-21 02:14:26 UTC

hmm I'm not sure that's why, he's a gay guy who's bf is darker skinned and I think that's part of it. For context haha

2019-12-21 02:14:51 UTC

Also the Witcher has a lot of skin tones and Gerald wanders everywhere, it would be really easy to write a story for it. I just finished Witcher 3 for reference.

2019-12-21 02:15:11 UTC

well right but

2019-12-21 02:15:17 UTC

in the books Triss who has red hair

2019-12-21 02:15:23 UTC

is definitely lighter skinned

2019-12-21 02:16:04 UTC

Gerry have you heard about the meme that hollywood is passionately racist towards redheads?

2019-12-21 02:16:04 UTC

And Yennefer too. And the guy who wrote the book is Polish and the folklore in the books is based in Polish stuff so it would make sense for all the characters to be of a particular skin tone wouldn't it?

2019-12-21 02:16:11 UTC

uh no I have not

2019-12-21 02:16:19 UTC

Yeah, redheads keep getting blackwashed

2019-12-21 02:16:25 UTC

I've seen that thing about the teen titans Starfire who's a redhead but also darker skinned

2019-12-21 02:16:30 UTC

Someone pointed it out to me a few years ago and it's the damnedest thing

2019-12-21 02:16:38 UTC

I only know of that example

2019-12-21 02:16:42 UTC

Literally any redhead character gets Blacked in a remake.

2019-12-21 02:16:57 UTC

Go through remakes and just do a checklist and try to find a remake.

2019-12-21 02:16:59 UTC

Also did he seriously say that he hates white people and that's why he did it or am I misreading you, Hound?

2019-12-21 02:17:19 UTC

@Black Cat It was in one of the casting discussions that got a huge amount of negative backlash.

2019-12-21 02:17:28 UTC

Ciri I think was going to be a strong black woman?

2019-12-21 02:17:30 UTC

the writer said that?

2019-12-21 02:17:38 UTC

Lordy!

2019-12-21 02:17:49 UTC

Also here's a sample Gerry https://imgur.com/gallery/uMfha

2019-12-21 02:17:55 UTC

2019-12-21 02:18:10 UTC

buuut I heard people say that that MJ from spiderman isn't Mary Jane

2019-12-21 02:18:18 UTC

just "MJ" for now and mary jane might pop up later
