I use the cheap $5 usb soldering iron when I cba to wait for my regular one to heat up

but the tips die very quickly

mm i went with the t12 for quicker heating times and cheep tips

those are good for light work

heat up in 10-15 seconds

but tips last no time at all

they don't look good at all

they do actually draw 8w when the tip is new

the tips last longer if you use leaded solder and don't keep them heated up for no reason

i got another one of those usb soldering irons the other day

works fine for when i dont wanna deal with my big iron

I do use leaded solder, but find they gradually decline in power to the point where solder just doesn't flow as well and you end up dragging the solder off when you remove the iron
