anybody know the difference between the typical old "piston 3" and all the "youth" versions on aliexpress?

Youth is plastic instead of aluminium and sounds like what you'd expect $4 IEMs to sound. I had piston 3s and loved them to the point of buying youth as replacement when I broke them. They've been in a drawer for two years. Hybrid pro HD are an acceptable replacement for Piston 3. Better build quality, less enjoyable sound.

Other than $1 zipper IEMs, piston 3 youth are the worst sounding I've ever bought. Only good thing about them is the comfy shape.
