Ugreen good for misc cables?

2019-01-29 23:46:53 UTC

@billsikes ugreen makes good cables yes

Are there any decent cordless soldering irons for occasional oddball stuff? Don't want the gas route. Just gonna fix my lighting and solder to the LED strips instead of lineman splice onto oddly mismatched size wires.

2019-01-30 00:00:12 UTC

TS100 and tape some 18650's to it?

2019-01-30 00:05:32 UTC

@timsandtoms lidl sell one for like £10

2019-01-30 00:05:39 UTC

obviosuly only once/year

2019-01-30 00:06:35 UTC

No lidl around PNW USA

2019-01-30 00:07:09 UTC

i use a T12 clone with a QC3.0 power bank

2019-01-30 00:07:23 UTC

you can get t12 clones that are integrated in to the handle

2019-01-30 00:10:40 UTC

get the blue handle one, it allows you to hold the iron closer to the tip

2019-01-30 00:11:01 UTC

you can buy them in a case prebuilt

2019-01-30 00:11:50 UTC

you need to supply 12-24v

2019-01-30 00:12:25 UTC

the ts100 is expensive if you just want occasional use

2019-01-30 00:14:28 UTC

that will give you 12v from a QC3.0 power bank

2019-01-30 00:16:13 UTC

the irons can do low voltage cutoff, so you can juse use a bare lipo

2019-01-30 00:16:19 UTC

Anything that can just do a couple 18650#?

2019-01-30 00:17:35 UTC

only with 2 much effort

2019-01-30 00:17:55 UTC

I don't have a QC 3.0 power bank, so I'd need to get that too

2019-01-30 00:18:18 UTC

Might just be better off with the Milwaukee for $75

2019-01-30 00:18:51 UTC

cheapo usb iron?

2019-01-30 00:19:12 UTC

yeah, use one of the cheapo usb irons

2019-01-30 00:19:14 UTC

8w

2019-01-30 00:19:29 UTC

Think I can solder 14AWG with it?

2019-01-30 00:19:59 UTC

ehh

2019-01-30 00:20:06 UTC

no

2019-01-30 00:20:23 UTC

the tips wear out really quickly

2019-01-30 00:20:37 UTC

you may be able to do it with a brand new tip

2019-01-30 00:21:04 UTC

you can get irons that run from 4xAA, you could run that from a couple of lipos I guess

2019-01-30 00:21:48 UTC

actually 14awg is probably possible

2019-01-30 00:25:40 UTC

get one and try tbh

2019-01-30 00:25:45 UTC

they're like 5-10$

2019-01-30 00:26:15 UTC

these things are OK for very occasional or light use. I've gone through 3 or 4 tips because they just don't last long
