But I think there's a big difference in that kind of situation if you still live with your parents. If you're out on your own, you are taking care of yourself, and are independent of your family's support.
If you still live with your parents, you're relying on them for food and shelter, so it might be smart to respect the people who are taking care of you. Especially if you're old enough to be kicked out, and don't have the means to support yourself.
