The first one, has a very differnt meaning when in RSV

2019-12-06 22:19:18 UTC

Translation has a big part of how you interpret it.

2019-12-06 22:19:39 UTC

The 2nd one has nothing to do with flat eath

2019-12-06 22:19:45 UTC

Neither does the 3rd one

2019-12-06 22:19:55 UTC

Neither does the 4th

2019-12-06 22:20:03 UTC

It calls the earth immovable

2019-12-06 22:20:13 UTC

It’s referring to it as a forced object

2019-12-06 22:20:21 UTC

No physically, not once does it refer to earth immovable as physically immovable

2019-12-06 22:20:50 UTC

It is talking about God's reign over earth

2019-12-06 22:20:55 UTC

that it will never be moved

2019-12-06 22:21:09 UTC

That earth was created, and it will never *not* be earth

2019-12-06 22:21:53 UTC

Christians held that belief however, it comes from Ptolemy which was deeply ingrained in European culture

2019-12-06 22:22:08 UTC

So was their brilliant understanding of medicine

2019-12-06 22:22:44 UTC

Christians held that belief does not mean it was inherently a Christian belief.

2019-12-06 22:22:52 UTC

This was a scientific endeavor, not a theological one.

2019-12-06 22:23:29 UTC

It was scientific belief, not a Christian belief.

2019-12-06 22:23:48 UTC

Anyways i must go, @Gromp feel free to respond and ill respond once im back.

2019-12-06 22:23:54 UTC

Nice Chat.

2019-12-06 23:17:01 UTC

Spook discussion I see

2019-12-06 23:20:57 UTC

yeh as far as im aware the belief in the flat earth was never part of christian doctrine and those bible quotes as maksim explained, do not say the earth is flat or that heliocentrism is wrong, the belief in the flat earth was fringe within christianity

2019-12-06 23:21:24 UTC

from what i know flat earth and geocentrism is based in ancient astrology and mysticism

2019-12-06 23:21:54 UTC

Flat earth thing was a dumb protestant thing

2019-12-06 23:22:23 UTC

Catholics and Orthodox knew the earth was actually round

2019-12-06 23:24:39 UTC

yeh it was classic prot stuff tbh
''um i dont understand this greek stuff so im just going to form my own interpretation''

2019-12-07 05:31:05 UTC

@Spergerger But didn’t the Flat Earth myth primarily derive from a mathematical dispute occurring between Columbus and the royal government?

2019-12-07 05:31:48 UTC

Specifically, the dispute was focused on the distance that it would take to get from Southern Europe to India.

2019-12-07 05:38:05 UTC

no

2019-12-07 05:41:03 UTC

@Zoltanous Depends on what you mean when you say "Protestant"

2019-12-07 05:52:22 UTC
2019-12-07 05:52:37 UTC

not even close

2019-12-07 05:53:18 UTC

nearly all scholars and aristocrats knew the earth was round since Pythagoras from 500 BC

2019-12-08 03:12:21 UTC

@Maksim Galileo was not really christian

2019-12-08 03:12:27 UTC

thats like calling Hitler a christian

2019-12-08 03:12:50 UTC

Galileo was very deep in occultism (which is forbidden in Christianity)

2019-12-08 03:12:56 UTC

k

2019-12-08 03:25:08 UTC

Yeah Galileo was put under house arrest for being a freak

2019-12-09 17:48:50 UTC
