I've been trying to get better at doing backgrounds digitally lately, im okay at painting backgrounds with watercolours but not on photoshop

I feel ya, backgrounds are really hard sometimes. I'm really surprised I succeeded with that one so well

What items do you recommend I use or buy so I can draw on a computer?

i started off with something like a wacom intuos small

I do both. I have a Wacom draw and I'd suggest Clip Studio paint, I love the program!

Do they cost anything?

I got a massive work in process from last year. I procrastinate a lot
