I'm more inclined to believe that he was mostly messed up mentally and, with a family who was also just as messed up as him, it just went into a spiral of insanity until someone got injured.

In their mind (due to intersectional identity politics), since presumably the shooter is a straight white male, LITERALLY the only reason ANYONE could classify it as anything other than terrorism is because he's white.
