🤔
concrete is kinda a weak ass material dde
its usually reinforced with steel rebar
Reinforced with steel rather
in buildings its reinforced with steel i beams
Concrete ain't no joke homeboy
its hard
and brittle
and breaks easily
it also erodes pretty easily
It doesn't?
Not exactly
Concrete takes decades to fully set let alone break down
Generally when concrete erodes it's BECAUSE of the reinforcements added into it
IE, the steel which is put in for strength
back in my day
Can become the weakness of it.
N word
the steel breaking down how lol
rust?
which forms from congtact with the air?
Also Roman concrete isnt (usually) stronger than Our Concrete
which implies that there have to be ways for air on the outside to reach the steel inside?
If concrete is that brittle and crackable, modern engineers wouldn't have used them as the basis of structures for long term concerns
Romans used it differently
Concrete is really susceptible to gun fire, however there are many mixtures, even since Roman times we’ve been putting crap in our concrete
Most or the crumbling concrete today arent from buildings
modern engineers use a lot of things for a lot of things
They are from bridges and other infrastructure
Romans didnt build overhead highways
asphalt isnt a very long lasting material
but its used to pave most roads
ooo rebar
The rust forms on the rebar
Which expands
made cheap get cheap results then ask about repairs later
And cracks the concrete.
