Hypothetical combat scenario, if you had a boob plate, and took a glance off the side, you'd be better off than a flatter plate, as the rounding redirects much more of the strike. However, if the strike hits more center, the rounding focuses that blow towards the center. If not already harmful, you get a more direct force, potentially imbalancing you or knocking you down, which spells death in most circumstances.
