Russia has no trading partners that we couldn't pressure into an embargo, and Russia's economy is backed by oil exports, and it's even fragile ontop of that. Couple that with no year-round warm water ports and you can completely cut them off and starve them out with minimal effort.

Russia also has more natural resources than the us

But that doesnt make the difference between us having the whole world minus Russia as a trading partner, and them being cut off entirely from everyone.
