Some troops wore shorts but not as common as our Rhodesian brothers.
Serious question, wouldn't shorts be a problem as they'd let your leg get all scratched up, or is that just a problem I've had in my particular environment?
SQUAD already has an FN FAL but it isn't the same variant as the R1. I'll have to model the R1 as a consquence. No problem though. I'm going to cheat a little and use the SQUAD FN FAL as a base to model over.
Ja shorts were a bad idea. Not just for the notorious haak n steek (thorn bushes) but sunburn too
Why did the Rhodesians wear them, then? Cost effectiveness?
Likely just preference. Rhodesians didn't fancy trousers in the blistering heat and humidity. Probably considered the thorn bushes as worth the risk for the increased airflow and thus comfort of shorts.
Rhino G6-45
Love this photo... a South African will improvise a braai regardless of the circumstances he finds himself in.
Sexy G6
No braai? Fuck that lets braai on a spade.
I'd love to have the ability to load rounds directly into the G6 as seen here. But definitely not something I'd include in the initial release of the G6 in OPS.
I can imagine pressing F to pick up a projectile. It then pops into your hands and you run over to the back. Press F again to pop it into the G6. Load and fire...
Now imagine doing it IRL when some commies need some hate dropped on them from the next ZIP code over
I won't have a full interior for the G6 though as I have no reference of the interior.
I've got pictures of a G6-*35* power pack, nothing on the 45.
With SQUAD's vaulting and climbing. Players will be able to climb in and out in a similar manner to how it was done in reality.
Angolan village
That's before it's razed to the ground for hiding FAPLA troops
or SWAPO. As they were the primary enemy. FAPLA just got in the way. Which led to contact with them as well. Although there were many instances where FAPLA was directly targeted but the end goal was always to undermine SWAPO and thus stop their yearly cross border infiltrations.
Parabats with the m83 helmet and wood grip galil.
I prefer the m87 helmet personally.
Is this the M87? If so this is actually my favorite military helmet
Yes m87
Mine
Similar to a pasgt really
How well were they liked by the people who had to wear them?
All I know is the troops preferred wearing the bush hat whenever possible. Wearing a helmet in such heat and for long periods wasn't glamorous.
Makes sense. It's a shame really, I just don't like the aesthetics of the bush hat.
Best aesthetic of the SADF imo sure the pat 70 and R1 were great too but I prefer the 80's aesthetic
Never seen that picture but I have to agree with you
Pat 70 kit and R1
Americans will recognize this vehicle as it was adopted by the US.
Yeah, I prefer the '80s look.
Also thanks to you and the Armscor discord my South African photo archive has tripled
You're welcome
Not familiar with that vehicle, looks like something from Mad Max. What is it?
It was called chubby by us
