McGregor lost his boxing match because of cardio

2017-12-31 00:23:09 UTC

It's a balancing act, really

2017-12-31 00:23:22 UTC

McGregor is a perfect example.

2017-12-31 00:23:48 UTC

You need to have the strength to fight (Via Muscle Mass) but the lungs to keep going.

2017-12-31 00:24:02 UTC

I actually have you in mind @Suomi Stronk. Footballers tend to burst then rest. But what if you have to burst then no rest?

2017-12-31 00:24:18 UTC

You have a very low body fat. Well sub@10

2017-12-31 00:24:26 UTC

I ran into this issue a lot in wrestling, as I had the strength to get most people in either the first or second period, but if it went into the third I was gassed.

2017-12-31 00:24:34 UTC

Yeah

2017-12-31 00:25:30 UTC

It just depends what your strategy is. Either overwhelm your opponent quickly or wait him out until an opportunity opens up.

2017-12-31 00:26:20 UTC

It depends on what energy system you train during exercise

2017-12-31 00:26:31 UTC

Well, you can overwhelm with more than 9 percent body fat.

2017-12-31 00:28:44 UTC

I just bought an exercise bike 👍

2017-12-31 00:30:03 UTC

How do you find the balance so you can fuel yourself?

2017-12-31 00:30:24 UTC

In 2018 I really want to take up running and swimming to supplement my weight training

2017-12-31 00:31:17 UTC

Back in 9th grade though I was a younger lad, I was in the best shape of my life and could run a mile in 5 minutes. And I would love to get back to that but also have the strength of a Greek god haha

2017-12-31 00:31:31 UTC

Did someone say cardio? Time to shill our Strava club again @everyone . DM me your Strava name and I'll send an invite. https://www.strava.com/clubs/GaryYounge

2017-12-31 00:31:58 UTC

Haha dude if you can run a mile that fast you definitely do not have much mass, but that is FAST

2017-12-31 00:32:07 UTC

What is strava @Argument of Perigee

2017-12-31 00:32:20 UTC

And yeah @Pat-MA I am very slim. I don't have a lot of muscle mass

2017-12-31 00:32:30 UTC

Strava is a running/cycling fitness tracker.

2017-12-31 00:32:36 UTC

I can't decide if that's good or bad. I don't like having to choose between speed or strength

2017-12-31 00:33:35 UTC

Hey man just gotta make the best of what you have been given right? I am thin too and can run a mile in 6 min, but part of me has wished I was a little bigger. But at the end of the day, I try to make the best of what I've been given

2017-12-31 00:34:15 UTC

@Pat-MA I just want to be in the best physical shape I can be in. I think I rather be lean and mean fast than not be able to touch my shoulders 😂

2017-12-31 00:35:27 UTC

Dude running a mile in 5 min is wicked fast. That is something to take pride in. Most people could never be physically capable of doing that

2017-12-31 00:35:52 UTC

Muscles need to be useful, not just pretty. I strongly believe that a well balanced physique is far more attractive than someone who builds muscle just for asthetics.

2017-12-31 00:36:58 UTC

You mean *this* gary younge?

2017-12-31 00:37:06 UTC

haha, yup

2017-12-31 00:37:11 UTC

Yeah. It is definitely good to have an athletic, fit body. Doesn't have to be loaded with muscle to be effective

2017-12-31 00:37:20 UTC

I'm British. ---- No...

2017-12-31 00:37:36 UTC

It also depends on what martial art / fighting style you use. If you're a wrestler, you expend energy in short spurts to slam someone or perform a takedown then you can rest by grappling with them and tying them up. However if you box, A LOT of cardio is needed.

2017-12-31 00:37:41 UTC

Yeah and Im Bantu

2017-12-31 00:38:25 UTC

@Pat-MA I agree. I want to have an atheletic body more than looking like a body builder. And yes definitely I want to train to be that fast again. It's been a few years and few pounds heavier though lol.

2017-12-31 00:40:32 UTC

Haha hey never too late though!

2017-12-31 00:45:40 UTC

@Argument of Perigee r u in the oathkeepers militia thing?

2017-12-31 00:46:22 UTC

@Koba#0202 I am.

2017-12-31 00:54:03 UTC

What's it like?

2017-12-31 00:56:57 UTC

fwiw, 10 or so years ago I ran long distances (30+ miles a day) and biked ultras (200+ a day) and then started focusing on lifting. I know that is excesive so don't do that but a) I feel so much better lifting even now as an old man and b) I receive so much more respect/attention (not in a vanity way) benching 350 than i even did biking 200 miles from men and women alike.

2017-12-31 00:58:00 UTC

but just like everyone said, all round fitness is the key as much as possible

2017-12-31 00:59:50 UTC

I haven't lived close to any of the significant issues they targeted for activism, so my membership has been extremely passive. Mostly just pay dues and read newsletters. I'm still active duty, so I can't really go do things with them very easily. @Deleted User

@eastern.patriarch How did running all those miles affect your lower body? Any injuries today?
