as time went on, the various principalities gradually lost their identities and became russians

2018-12-29 02:29:57 UTC

however certain places like galicia and volhynia remained outside of russian control until 1945, and never adopted a russian identity, and instead kept their old identities as part of the old principalities. These identities became the modern ukrainian identity

2018-12-29 02:32:16 UTC

so Ivan IV was part of a broader trend of centralization and russification that continued until 1917, but was exceptionally good at it

2018-12-29 02:32:42 UTC

but he was still part of the old system in a lot of ways

2018-12-29 02:32:47 UTC

hope that makes sense

2018-12-29 02:35:11 UTC

Good introduction for sure. Let me know what you think of the book. Saw a cheap version (used) on amazon, how much did you pay? And how did you stumble on or rather settle on this book? Via interweb wormhole?

2018-12-29 03:05:14 UTC

I think I was searching for medieval russian history on Amazon

2018-12-29 03:05:25 UTC

it was $38 for kindle edition iirc

2018-12-29 03:06:37 UTC

found a cheap used paperback. let me know how you like it. i'll probably pick it up regardless.

2018-12-29 03:10:40 UTC

will do

2018-12-31 22:02:12 UTC

@Mick I read a pretty good synthesis of Russian history from the Kievan Rus all the way to Putin a couple years ago. Next time I’m near it, I’ll send you a pic of the cover. I read it with almost now background info though, so if you know a lot about Russian history, you might not be a big fan

2019-01-01 07:01:16 UTC

I don't know much at all really. Very basic fun fact level.

2019-01-01 07:03:58 UTC

So yeah, if you can recall or find the book and let me know, that'd be great.

2019-01-01 07:04:35 UTC

this medieval russia book is pretty good so far

2019-01-01 07:05:38 UTC

Gonna buy it in a batch of books soon here probably. Hopefully @Tron can remember what book he's talking about so I can get that too.

2019-01-02 04:34:26 UTC

@Tron Greg was really on fire the last half of 2018. Looking forward to his new collection.

might have sounded better with "identitarian" than "white nationalist", but you get the point

2019-01-05 05:06:11 UTC

@Jacob that page from the white nationalist manifesto?

2019-01-05 05:09:06 UTC

yes

2019-01-05 05:09:28 UTC

@Jacob did you know that Mufon the UFO people have a lobbyist in DC? How sad is it that white people cant have a lobby.

2019-01-05 05:11:08 UTC

@Nerv - VA lmao post this in general on the main server and I'll tell you something that reminds me of

2019-01-05 05:11:43 UTC

Haha. I think people think I’m weird as it is.

2019-01-05 05:11:50 UTC

I’ll do it.

2019-01-05 05:24:01 UTC

2019-01-12 08:20:09 UTC

@Nemets Did you get the first or second edition (Medieval Russia)? Wondering how much it matters since I found a cheap version of the first edition.

2019-01-12 08:22:33 UTC

bought the first ed. anyway, just wondering...

2019-01-12 16:16:31 UTC

@Mick 2nd. Shouldn’t be too many differences though

2019-01-13 23:45:43 UTC

@Nemets I figured. It'll be nice to have some decent background knowledge on the region, just to better understand contemporary Russia both domestically and how it interacts with the US and the rest of the world.

2019-01-18 23:11:28 UTC

I can’t recommend this book enough. Heard is 100 percent /ourguy/ and has great direction for the book. It’s a potential bridge for normies with tons of points that’ll get the noggin joggin.
The deconstruction and inversion of art was one of the first major attacks on the west. Modern art has been bleeding out our culture for over a century and it goes largely unaddressed. The book points out the who and the how. Plus, why traditional art was so crucial to the west.
Check it out.

I would recommend roger scruton's 'why beauty matters' if you haven't seen it. Essentially the same topic.
