Does anyone know what I can read on the US history? Something that can give me a good overview since I'd be starting with very basic knowledge (a foreigner here, don't judge).

@Nemets Hmm, all of them from the beginning? My knowledge is really rudimentary. Just need basic facts, with some analysis, what happened when and why.

There were a lot of them during Peter the Great and Yekaterina in Russia.

there are still some streets in Ukraine with German names and houses, from the time when they had their own parts of cities

not sure how true that is in Russia

I grew up in the Southern part, near Ukraine. I don't remember having German anything down there. I think they settled along Volga?
