Also, if it hasn't been shared before, http://www.fsi-language-courses.net/fsi-language-courses/ has some great resources.

Haha

2018-03-18 22:06:03 UTC

Hello, I would like to begin German. Is there a class starting soon for a regular voice chat?

2018-03-18 22:11:33 UTC

Und ich

2018-03-19 00:52:29 UTC

So how does the language server work?

2018-03-19 05:01:37 UTC

@Deleted User try pinging <@&387091385075105804> who are all people who have volunteered to be pinged on "academics" like language!

@Wilhelm-OH#5377 Como quieres practicar? Por voz? No se si hay gente suficiente para una charla en grupo.

@everyone One of the Florida boys created a server exclusively for languages.

@StrawberryArmada I've been learning some Irish and Scots Gaelic through music and poetry. I can't converse in the language, or really form a sentence on my own, but have mostly memorized phrases. Listening to the music really helps with pronouncing the words.

I made a massive playlist of Gaelic music if you would be interested in that.

@John O - Any way you could post a new link to the language server? Thank you.

Thanks!!

are language learning discussions still on the separate server?

Any native German speakers? I've been learning on Duolingo for a while now, but the voices are computer generated. How exactly does one pronounce the word "milch" ?

2018-06-25 06:33:30 UTC

Meelkh

2018-06-25 07:46:19 UTC

Is there any sort of "sh" sound?

2018-06-25 07:46:30 UTC

I have a feeling the robovoice is a little distorted.

2018-06-25 07:47:24 UTC

Not on that word.

2018-06-25 07:48:09 UTC

That I understand.

2018-06-25 07:48:13 UTC

Pretty sure the ch in milch is like the one in ich and unlike the one in nacht

2018-06-25 07:48:42 UTC

I think the best approximation of the sound is the h in the word “hue”

2018-06-25 07:48:46 UTC

OK, so there is an exhalation of air at the end?

2018-06-25 07:48:48 UTC

Kind of catlike

2018-06-25 07:49:34 UTC

I think High German Hoch Deutsch they may say it like an sh

2018-06-25 07:50:05 UTC

The male and female voices seem to differ a bit too on the pronunciation.

2018-06-25 07:51:16 UTC

It’s a fricative, so there’s a puff of air. Like English F or sh

2018-06-25 07:51:32 UTC

It’s not a stop, so there’s air.

2018-06-25 07:51:44 UTC

It's hard to say it 🙃
