@Der Seeteufel - SD I've eaten my own vgtables but from my garden, nothing like what you guys have lol. Little Rhody aint got that kinda land.

My father owns two quarters I'm planning on farming myself but that's a tiny farm around here. I'm probably going to have to share crop a lot and drive truck on the side, but I'll be dammed if I don't give my children more land than I started with.

My family has a farm. My step father and mother are the main care takers and the rest of us pitch in when we can. I grew up on a different bigger farm. The current one is 60 acres 40 of that is wooded though. The farm I grew up on was 150+ acres.

@JesseJames my Voo owed 100 acres off jepson lane I'm middle/Portsmouth RI but sold the farm in 1990,

My dream is to one day purchase what is left of the car I grew up on. A lot of it has been developed but we sold the house with 50 acres so i would love to have it.

@Der Seeteufel - SD if you need some farming equipment fixed, my grandpa runs a machine shop with pre WWII equipment. Old man wisdom. DM me if you ever need the info.

@Sam Anderson thanks man. We repair pretty much everything ourselves and have a pretty well stocked shop, but if we ever need some custom machining on some of our older equipment I'll think of you.

We fixed one of the hydraulics on this old beast today. Turns out it just needed a new o ring

Completed my longest haul to date. Delivered 5000gal of water to one of our outlying fields. 30 miles out from the farm.

Back at the farm loading up 5000 more gallons.

I was slowing down way to early on my return trip. It's amazing how much of a difference 40,000lbs makes.

Christ, I should've gotten my CDL when I had the chance

If you go work on a farm you don't need a CDL within 100mi of the farm. At least that's how it works here. I basically just did a few really short hauls with unloaded trucks and my boss in the passenger seat, but I recently started driving solo. I probably have less than 3 hours behind the wheel. Sometimes I think it's crazy the level of trust these guys have.

@Der Seeteufel - SD the sheer scale of ya’lls operation is staggering.

@Deleted User part of the reason I keep getting bigger and bigger jobs is that there is no one else to do it. Just think, we farm tens of thousands of acres with 7 full time employees including the boss. It keeps getting harder and harder to find temporary workers too. Most of the guys we hire during busier times are in their 50s or older. There's opportunity out here if young guys are willing to look for it.

@Der Seeteufel - SD why do you suppose it’s hard to come by young workers?

I think it's 2 fold. The price of farm labor is driven down by immigration and farmers are having fewer children. It also doesn't help that most farmers kids end up going to college and moving away. My grandfather had 6 sons and only one of them continued to work in agriculture, and it's only getting worse.

@Der Seeteufel - SD Howdy Andrew. New recruit here from down in Texas. Do you happen to have any experience with smaller operations, say involving greenhouses and aquaponics? Or 50-100 acres?

@Mikolas sorry but I am actually pretty new at this myself and I work on a 26,000 acre grain farm.

When your significant other complains about vacuuming show them this.

Someone left a gate open on the leg system and we put 10,000 bushels of corn on top of 40,000 bushels of wheat. Only thing to do is suck it off the top with a 200hp vacuum cleaner.

We've gotten about one truck load out

So my girlfriend asked me, "What did you do all day?" Oh nothing much just sat knee deep in corn and watched a giant vacuum.
