A pretty large chest I made to sit at the bottom of my bed. Should look really nice when I stain /finish it

The hinges for the lid and the handles haven’t arrived yet either, but I found some really nice hinges hat allow the lid to over hang on the back

Nice they have some cool bail pulls on there. Wish I would have known before I bought the ones I did so I could have more choices. Either way the ones I got are fine though I guess.

2018-11-21 19:02:02 UTC

Haha you could always swap it out later. Nice work though bro.

2018-11-21 21:20:09 UTC

Thank you.

2018-11-21 21:21:06 UTC

That’s true. I’ll see how it looks before I install it and return it if I don’t like it

2018-11-24 21:23:33 UTC

@Envian Nice work. Post photos after you stain it please, they always look so good after being stained.

Glazed

2018-12-06 22:21:01 UTC

The frame I had to chisel out the mortise for the pulleys. These are single hung windows.

In that 2nd pic I used a chisel. Once it's like that you can use just a chisel to get the material out.

That’s cool. I haven’t run into a situation that requires any of my chisels yet.

2018-12-07 18:23:58 UTC

The key to getting good cuts with hand chisels is to cut across the grain. I also trace the pulley with a razor and it keeps the edges from blowing out.

2018-12-28 21:35:25 UTC

I build a custom book scanner

2018-12-28 21:36:04 UTC

I made it from 1/2 Birch ply wood

I made a special cut-out with a glass insert

2018-12-28 21:39:46 UTC

I cut the glass with a Four-fluted straight flute drill bit

I made mounting brackets from the scrap Birch plywood and mounted the Scanner up-side down so I can place the Book face down on the glass surface to get a perfect image surface

I placed Teflon tape on and around the base of the scanner and used 5min epoxy as a plastic shim so that the scanner could be mounted to the birch brackets without drilling into the base of the base of the scanner
