My ancestor was a Stone Mason for this, St. John the Baptist Church in NYC. He died from complications from breathing in the dust

beautiful church

Contrast the churches and cathedrals our ancestors built one thousand years ago with the degenerate/nihilistic ones of the modern world.

I like Polk specifically because he set out to achieve a specific set of attainable goals and achieved them

>54'40 or fight

>Polk "achieved" his goals

Well you have to examine what 54'40 or fight meant. It meant resolving a border conflict with the British, but making it clear that he was looking to make a deal that was favorable to America and wasn't willing to get fleeced on it. In the end I think setting a clear border on the 49th parallel is an amazing achievement. Its like Trump style negotiation. Set a favorable boundary to the negotiation so you walk away with what you want. @Deleted User

Think of how Trump said Mexico would pay for the wall. What he conveyed with that message is that the wall was not just a physical barrier, but a message to the rest of the world that America will no longer tolerate unfavorable trade deals. Mexico will not physically pay for the wall, but they will stop taking advantage of us because of the message the wall sends and how Trump plans to use that message

t. bugman historian
Polk's not a bad president but a lot of pretentious folks overrate him for the sake of showing off their basic knowledge of American history

2018-04-02 01:24:34 UTC

Polk fought a war to pay for the privilege of buying sparsely populated land

2018-04-02 01:24:58 UTC
