I'm reading a book series at the moment on napoleon it's the best of read on him yet . It's by Michael briers the first book is called soldier of destiny it really moves the histography if napoleon forward in a big way

@Callaghan iv read a good bit on him before and it's mainly focused on napoleon so it covers more the parts of the wars he's involved with so the seige of toulon , the Italian campaigns in the 2nd and 3d wars of the coalition's and invasion of Egypt after that napoleon's in full control so it in detail covers all the subsequent wars
@Callaghan the book uses a large database of napoleon s letter to bring alot of new context to him, many historians either turn napoleon into a 1d villian or a saint a this new series of books I find does about to scrutinise these and give a clear picture if your looking for more military history maybe try David g chandler he's English so he might be abit biased but he served in the army briefly so he come at it with that type of view

@Callaghan well he doesn't really hold to it but he's isn't a massive critics of it either , I'm a big fan of napoleon but Tolstoy trash him and the great man theory relentlessly but I still enjoyed his work war and peace no-one writes like Tolstoy and his russian view is quite intresting
@Callaghan my view of it is napoleon was a genius but without the wealth of talented administrators and generals that came up with him during the revolution he would have been very limited in what he could do . Take someone like his chief of staff Bierther he was in some ways essential to napoleon and you can sense napoleon's loss of him in the Waterloo campaign where his organisational skills where surley missed

Waterloo by david g chandler ,the second instalment of that series is spirt of the age which I'm reading right now and that author has many books on different parts of Europe @Callaghan if I think of any others il let u know
