If you have cows you can also have oxes on the livestock

2017-10-01 01:34:20 UTC

@dmac100 exactly, they need 1 acre for eating and you need a second acre to regrow.

2017-10-01 01:34:21 UTC

2017-10-01 01:34:54 UTC

we need to think about machines to help us maximise output

2017-10-01 01:35:13 UTC

combines for corn

2017-10-01 01:35:22 UTC

2017-10-01 01:35:52 UTC

Fuck yeah

2017-10-01 01:36:07 UTC

Corn is a must have for vegetable starch

2017-10-01 01:36:23 UTC

And even for biodiesel

2017-10-01 01:36:28 UTC

Peas are awesome, they grow like hell

2017-10-01 01:36:39 UTC

2017-10-01 01:36:44 UTC

Heck, you can burn corn cobs for heat.

2017-10-01 01:36:53 UTC

we can still buy from hardware stores

2017-10-01 01:37:01 UTC

2017-10-01 01:38:12 UTC

2017-10-01 01:38:23 UTC

@!papa agreed

2017-10-01 01:38:34 UTC

put simply

2017-10-01 01:39:00 UTC

Self sufficiency should be a long term goal, but thinking that we'd be using Amish level technology starting out is silly.

2017-10-01 01:39:09 UTC

@Mitere this

2017-10-01 01:39:41 UTC

@dmac100 corn may not be optimal for energy but we can kill many problems with one solution

2017-10-01 01:39:41 UTC

I think it's completely reasonble to have non-powered tools to use in a SHTF long term scenario but also make use of modern technology while we have it.

2017-10-01 01:40:01 UTC

>implying I'm not gonna set up blacksmithing shop with Ramen

2017-10-01 01:40:03 UTC

@dmac100 what didnt you get about buying capital goods and producing consumer goods

2017-10-01 01:40:11 UTC

Heh, get a load of this guy..

2017-10-01 01:40:28 UTC

we buy tools and machines and produce food to sustain ourselves

2017-10-01 01:40:38 UTC

maybe even sell surpluses to outsiders

2017-10-01 01:41:12 UTC

IRCC biodiesel corn farmers only get a profit through government subsidies. IF they didn't get govn't funding for "Green energy" they wouldn't break even.
