@hughmunguswutt I think just generally speaking these people have a really confused notion of how to interpret the faith. Look the best advice I can give you is to actually start participating in the mass and start reading good Catholic literature, lives of the Saints, Catechisms, Catholic Encyclopedia etc. I can't offer a refutation of any of these people without actually knowing what specifically you are referring to so I can only really offer a general sort of critique that Jay Dyer for one doesn't actually understand Thomism at all, essence and energies either completely compatible with divine simplicity or it is utterly incoherent. Vatican Catholic I've engaged with his material less than Dyer's but it's your typical sede stuff, look if you really take Sedevacantism serious you enter an epistemic crisis which will constantly leave you guessing where the true Church is.
There is nothing wrong with the Novus Ordo as a sacrifice and nothing wrong with the new sacraments, the apt mater and intention remains. They are different and they may be deficient in comparison to the old rites but they actually do what they are intended to do.
@hughmunguswutt Extraordinary salvation is an open question
Thank you for your answer @Scooter2000
I have to humbly admit that I for one don’t understand anything having to do with Thomism or divine simplicity or essence and energies. I just know a lot of Bible verses and narratives, probably more than the average person. But when it comes to all that philosophy, I’m extremely ignorant.
A lot of that language is completely foreign to me, coming from a Protestant background
I just know I have a lot of confusion due to all the different groups claiming to be following the true Gospel in light of current events and recent history
But I’ll think about what you said. I really appreciate it.
@hughmunguswutt read liberalism is a sin by Dr Felix Sarda y Salvani, it'll be a good introduction to the traditional Catholic viewpoint
church posting gang
Nice
Flags don't belong inside a church tbh
I'm about to enter rcia
In September
I'm a cradle catholic
But I never received my first holy communion and I haven't been confirmed
We all just do it in school in Ireland
Well, I'd imagine that's on the way out atm but even when I did it most ppl did it for the money and to fit in
What's it like in the US? What age do most receive first holy communion?
7
@hughmunguswutt Well there's problem number one dude. You aren't catechized at all. You need to start learning the Catholic Faith, it's no wonder all these naysayers have you confused
Has anyone here done RCIA ? If so what was your experience ?
@Scooter2000 Why isn't the Pope's position on the death penalty considered heresy???
If it contradicts all previous teaching, scripture and doctrine, which it does so far as I can tell
@NormanLord First of all, anybody who tells you this constitutes heresy is talking out of there ass. It's definitely unorthodox, it contradicts tradition but that doesn't make a heresy. A heresy is a denial of defined truth of the Catholic faith so that means either explicit denial of a dogma or a doctrine derived from said dogma. The death penalty has no dogmatic definition you can have either opinion on it.
The weight of tradition (in my estimation) supports the death penalty
@Christopher Yeah I did it was great.
@Christopher I forget whre it was , but somewhere on youtube there is an RCIA course of videos that is very help (even to me, a confirmed catholic)
Yeah like guys don't feel like you have to be reading St. Thomas' Suma and have an intimate knowledge of canon law and Papal encyclicals if your a newbie, just start off with what's accessible and build from there.
Ordered this fellas
Looks nice
