@Mephisto Well we believe in theosis too we just typically don't call it such. Deification is the word I hear the most.

The Orthodox and the Catholic faith is not nearly so different as people would have you think. Where we differ is in Ecclesiology which is to say what constitutes the Church and how the Church functions.

I could be wrong but I thought Catholics believed deification occurs after death whereas Orthodox believe Theosis is a process that occurs across one's life. Because of that relationship with God they believe that the Church can be determined by those who truly have the relationship and thats essentially how they get away with not having a pope or central authority. The ultimate authority of their Church doesnt come from infallible leadership but the sum of individuals undergoing theosis with God. It sounded not too unlike protestantism which is part of what turned me off to it

@NormanLord I get what you’re saying and understand that women, especially young impressionable women are fickle and often times just need someone else with strong beliefs to latch onto. I just can’t possibly see it being worth the effort. This is a psych/soc major going to college in a major city. Most likely already firmly entrenched in these kind of beliefs and constantly being reinforced by her environment and peer group.
