In reality its the American people who are taking on debt, but we dont even control the people who control the people who turn the levers on our debt. Look at what has happened to Greece Spain and Italy, access to Daddy Germany's checkbook has caused their states to bloat and suffocate their economies. Their Debt to GDP is the economic equivalent to torture porn. America is on a much larger scale, but that is where we are headed. If we didn't have as much access to all this free money. Then we would either have to raise revenues, or cut spending. At the current moment, the reason even the biggest spending hawks in congress can't really cut spending is because of the allure of all of that free money. Look at the government shutdown. We all just caved to borrow trillions of dollars because we can. Cheap debt is the crack cocaine of the developed world and its time to either get sober or get pulled over.
