How do you even hold a conversation in Irish?

2017-08-14 11:37:01 UTC

For example there isn't even a word for yes or no

2017-08-14 11:37:10 UTC

With great difficulty, it requires changing how you think

2017-08-14 11:37:18 UTC

I was fluent once but I've slipped into mediocrity

2017-08-14 11:37:24 UTC

And I thought Welsh was weird for having multiple words for "yes" but not one for "No"

2017-08-14 11:37:37 UTC

It's different in celtic languages

2017-08-14 11:37:40 UTC

You answer with the topic

2017-08-14 11:37:42 UTC

No in Welsh would be "Not Yes"

2017-08-14 11:38:03 UTC

So if I ask you if you walked, the answer would be "I walked" or "I didn't walk"

2017-08-14 11:38:05 UTC

For yes/no

2017-08-14 11:38:15 UTC

Ah

2017-08-14 11:38:34 UTC

The only real form of yes or no is for the more permanent form of the verb to be or to exist, which indicates something is permanently or isn't permanently a way

2017-08-14 11:38:46 UTC

It's good to be bilingual though

2017-08-14 11:38:54 UTC

NL is netherlands?

2017-08-14 11:39:00 UTC

Yeah

2017-08-14 11:39:07 UTC

🇳🇱

2017-08-14 11:39:32 UTC

I know Dutch, English, enough German to understand and read it, a tad bit of Swedish, I can read Russian, know a tiny bit of Japanese, a little bit of Irish and a very tiny bit of Persian

2017-08-14 11:40:15 UTC

#AnnexBelgium

2017-08-14 11:40:15 UTC

Dutch is easy to comprehend even though I don't speak it

2017-08-14 11:40:19 UTC

Ha

2017-08-14 11:40:20 UTC

HAHA

2017-08-14 11:40:33 UTC

I fucking hate all the grammatical rules to Dutch

2017-08-14 11:40:42 UTC

Most near germanic languages are comprehendable in the most basic sense if you're not sub 90 iq

2017-08-14 11:40:47 UTC

I always fared mediocre in grammar tests

2017-08-14 11:40:55 UTC

I've a skill for languages

2017-08-14 11:41:04 UTC

Just so many fucking rules that cancel eachother out

2017-08-14 11:41:15 UTC

You're better off playing Yu-gi-yoh blindfolded

2017-08-14 11:41:34 UTC

I've no desire to learn a language other than having the two I already have

2017-08-14 11:41:46 UTC

English is the best language in terms of practicality, the biggest set of words

2017-08-14 11:41:46 UTC

dude dutch is easy

2017-08-14 11:41:56 UTC

if you know english and german + another germanic language

2017-08-14 11:42:03 UTC

you barely need to work on grammar

2017-08-14 11:42:31 UTC

I'm born in the Netherlands, first language, but goddamn are all those grammar rules a fucking pain

2017-08-14 11:42:47 UTC

i think dutch is a nice language

2017-08-14 11:42:49 UTC

English has developed to become my best language, because it's much easier to comprehend

2017-08-14 11:44:03 UTC

tbh i like most european languages

2017-08-14 11:44:14 UTC

German is such a nice langugae to just shout in

2017-08-14 11:44:15 UTC

not spanish though

2017-08-14 11:44:52 UTC

You can shout "I love butterflies, cheese and milk" in German and it sounds like you're planning to slit the throats of newborn kittens

2017-08-14 11:45:13 UTC

Such an aggressive language, and I love it
