Question, fellas: my IP address is hidden behind a VPN (appears that I am in another state), yet when I looked something up Google maps suggested stuff in the town I live in... how?

I refreshed my VPN cluster, looked up "______ near me", and it still recommends places near my actual location. Why is my IP not being hidden from Google?

They have other ways of finding your location than IP

You probably search stuff relevant to your area and Google stores that information in the cookies

Though I'm not an expert on this and might be wrong

Rarely ever use Google, never looked up anything personally or locally relevant that couldn't be from/about anywhere

I guess at some point big tech knows these things, at least my IP is still behind the VPN

I could give you a few basic facts about myself that each on their own are nothing special but when put together would be enough to dox me if someone who knows me saw them

For example, I'm a 21 year old Polish guy in Eastern Washington. Each of these facts on their own are useless. But, that specific combination is rare enough that if you knew me in real life and you heard those 3 facts, you'd know who I am.
