In SC I never understood Graham’s tenaciousness in electoral politics until I met with him a few times. I’d heard about how slick he was, but I’ll tell you he’s a master at both constituent service and shoring up support at every level, from the VFW Hall in a tiny town to small county Council Chairmen to other members of Congress.
I always thought his positions on the Empire were understandable given the SC electorate, but the immigration position was confounding.
He was saved in a primary or two by the way by the black vote - there is a plurality of them in SC that actually likes him.
He’s more popular than Tim Scott with the Blacks, actually.
