Genuine question:
Why was the Bren light machine gun been in service from 1938 ,tell 2006 ?
was her magisty too poor to adopt 50 cal or make more lewis guns ?

Gotta work through that stockpile when you got an NHS to pay for

2019-08-01 10:25:17 UTC

Guess that explains why you guys litteraly made a gun out of kitchen and plumbing equipment "STEN", why still used maxims at the time and Why you couldnt supply airforce with second parachutes since *8 pounds per life was too expinsive*

We were fighting a war against most of the factories in Europe

We did. In the end

but there were these things called U-boats

Angry German sea beasts

2019-08-01 13:13:13 UTC

U-boats was one of the most effective weapons of war under ww2. It was a reason why the merchant marines had the worst rate of casualties of all the branches of the allied forces

2019-08-01 13:53:31 UTC

but hitler squandered resources on battleships because he thought battleships were awesome

2019-08-01 14:03:14 UTC

hes not wrong in them being awesome though

2019-08-01 14:03:21 UTC

just like a kar98k is awesome

2019-08-01 14:03:27 UTC

but an stg more effective

2019-08-01 15:11:11 UTC

Most people under ww2 except for that Americans did believe that the fight on water was to be the same as ww1 but they were the first to realise that the future was in aircraft carriers and the rest were just there to support them

2019-08-01 18:51:36 UTC

@LOGiK It was a decent idea to try and challenge the royal navy with a small modern fleet close to home to make it vulnerable abroad, but it got started way too late to build up in time.

2019-08-01 19:05:55 UTC

it was a bad idea to throw huge manufacturing time and metal resources into giant battleships, if hitler had just made uboats germany probably would have won the naval war

2019-08-02 00:01:39 UTC

@LOGiK Once convoys got ironed out they were vastly less effective and would have needed even more numbers to remain effective, and towards 1944 and 1945 plane-mounted radar and searchlights meant subs were suffering ever-greater mortality. So yeah, subs were a great investment early on but needed more and more investment to stay competitive later on against attrition. Honestly I think they should have invested a bit more in light surface ships like destroyers and E-boats to avoid facing the Royal Navy in open combat and maybe naval special forces like the Italians, but once they got bottled up in their ports they were basically doomed no matter what.
