An army placed on a defensive position does not have its airforce on the border

2019-05-10 10:10:13 UTC

that's held true since 1914 and still does today

2019-05-10 10:10:24 UTC

Why?

2019-05-10 10:10:37 UTC

Because it's simply way too easy for the enemy to destroy your planes on the ground

2019-05-10 10:10:44 UTC

peace time isn't a defensive operation

2019-05-10 10:10:47 UTC

which is exactly what happened

2019-05-10 10:11:00 UTC

They literally lost 3/4 of their airforce in the first 6 months of fighting

2019-05-10 10:11:07 UTC

Um Russian planes didn't have much range....Hence the nearby

2019-05-10 10:11:11 UTC

not quite 3/4 but around 70% if I'm not mistaken

2019-05-10 10:11:13 UTC

The Luftwaffa outranged them

2019-05-10 10:11:43 UTC

They had more than enough range to conduct defensive operations had they been placed in the rear

2019-05-10 10:12:12 UTC

They just couldn't be placed in the rear *and* conduct offensive operations

2019-05-10 10:12:27 UTC

Just look at the composition of the soviet army during the invasion of Finland and Poland in 1939

2019-05-10 10:12:43 UTC

It was the same

2019-05-10 10:12:54 UTC

it's all the same man

2019-05-10 10:13:04 UTC

the world is a kaleidoscope

2019-05-10 10:13:11 UTC

flowers are better than tanks

2019-05-10 10:13:18 UTC

That just tells me you don't know how different armies are composed and placed on the battlefield

2019-05-10 10:13:22 UTC

Also again Stalin was a moron militarily, as well he didn't think Germany would ever invade

2019-05-10 10:13:33 UTC

Again, why he didn't respond for near 2 weeks

2019-05-10 10:13:38 UTC

Stalin didn't need Germany to invade

2019-05-10 10:13:45 UTC

He was convinced WW1 would repeat itself

2019-05-10 10:13:50 UTC

and he was mostly correct

2019-05-10 10:14:02 UTC

the only mistake he made was not predict how quickly Hitler would overrun Western Europe

2019-05-10 10:14:05 UTC

nobody did

2019-05-10 10:14:17 UTC

Even Hitler himself was surprised again and again

2019-05-10 10:14:26 UTC

especially with France and Norway

2019-05-10 10:14:49 UTC

Stalin's plan was to let the west fight it out then proceed west himself

2019-05-10 10:15:00 UTC

with his thousands of new tanks and planes

2019-05-10 10:15:07 UTC

so to sum up. it was all britains fault, staling would have stabbed hitler in the back if not hitler had stabbed stalin in the back first... just like with the night of the long knives and hitler wasn't a moron

2019-05-10 10:15:30 UTC

Of course it wasn't all Britain's fault

2019-05-10 10:15:37 UTC

it's interesting you know stalin's plans

2019-05-10 10:15:39 UTC

France did fall faster then Norway. and because of the fall of France, UK had to pull out of norway where they was pushing the Germans back to go and save their allies in France.

2019-05-10 10:15:48 UTC

as I said, Hitler was too rash and impatient but certainly not a moron

2019-05-10 10:16:04 UTC

Churchill was no moron either

2019-05-10 10:16:21 UTC

He had to be, because he planned his economy out, and factories were already converting to the next stage

2019-05-10 10:16:27 UTC

but it's not like he had any intention of ending the war when he could have in the spring and summer of 1940

2019-05-10 10:16:29 UTC

And the Invasion was taking to much

2019-05-10 10:17:09 UTC

can I have the TL : DR version please 😛

2019-05-10 10:17:13 UTC

@TwinVickers I don't claim to have some deep personal insight into Stalin's mind, this is not hidden knowledge, it's all out there

2019-05-10 10:17:26 UTC

Churchill had no power in 1940. He was part of the War Cabinet, mostly to shut him up.
