EU will not let UK stay until the EU elections as they know UK will only send EU sceptics and as they are expecting a horde of EU sceptics from all of Europe and that is not something they want at all. and when the dept bubble in Spain burst we will se chaos in all of EU
5 years is based on the Parliamentary election cycle - once that gets exceeded, it will be hard to argue that opinions haven't changed - theoretically it shouldn't matter, but in the real world it will.
