Well we have about 200 million descendants of Europeans who decided to leave and they generally are not less nationalistic than the population that remained where they came from

2018-10-17 03:51:56 UTC

although now that I think about it, the same theory doesn't explain Sweden's situation I think, right? I'm not familiar if with Sweden had an aristocratic class

2018-10-17 03:52:11 UTC

@ThisIsChris There is a royal family

2018-10-17 03:52:22 UTC

That's the image of a family that is like a cross to a vampire for the left

2018-10-17 03:52:39 UTC

That family!

2018-10-17 03:52:55 UTC

The kinds of emigrants from Europe today are more on the cosmopolitan side. They're going where the money is and tend towards neoliberalism. The Europeans who came here centuries ago were ordinary people, albeit a bit more individualistic on average

2018-10-17 03:53:00 UTC

I don’t think they really did, at least not nearly to the degree Britain did.

2018-10-17 03:53:02 UTC

a hundred thousand whinging cat-ladies screaming in outrage

2018-10-17 03:53:02 UTC

That family's so white I'm glad I have f.luxx installed

2018-10-17 03:53:03 UTC

2018-10-17 03:53:04 UTC

My Gods, that is what I want my neighborhood to look like. Not what I live in now. <:sad:366743316475281408>

2018-10-17 03:54:20 UTC

Yeah, here in Norfolk its like I feel that I need to escort college women to the Food Lion to get food. Granted certain self defense laws in VA are quite reasonable soo.

2018-10-17 03:54:22 UTC

@Ald Because this is a country of settlers moreso than a country of immigrants

2018-10-17 03:54:30 UTC

lols

2018-10-17 03:54:52 UTC

I don't think so? Do not immigrant descendants now outnumber founding descendants?

2018-10-17 03:55:08 UTC

In particular Germans outnumber English

2018-10-17 03:56:13 UTC

@Ald I'd consider pre Civil War immigrants to be old stock. Germans were the most common ethnicity among the settlers of the Great Plains

2018-10-17 03:57:00 UTC

Is there much of a meaningful distinction anymore? My great grandfather immigrated from the UK, but I have other ancestors that came on the Mayflower. There’s a lot of intermarriage among even white groups now. It’s not very weird to see someone who’s half Greek, half old stock Anglo.

2018-10-17 03:57:32 UTC

@Ald Depends on where

The South is almost exclusively anglo celtic

2018-10-17 03:57:36 UTC

Old map, but relevant

2018-10-17 03:58:00 UTC

We were told for ages that it wasn't that important, well now we have hard data that is kind of is

2018-10-17 03:58:05 UTC

@Tyler0317 *ahem*

2018-10-17 03:58:08 UTC

There's not much of a meaningful distinction now. Those who are virtually one thing (like I about 80% English old stock) are rare and even I have an immigrant great great grandparent

2018-10-17 03:58:40 UTC

@Goose With a pocket of Frogs at the mouth of the Mississippi 😉
