I'm the 1% of lower middle class lol

2019-05-12 16:19:08 UTC

I mean my parents have a combined salary of about 26/27k a year

2019-05-12 16:19:13 UTC

earning too much to get welfare but not enough to actual have a decent life

2019-05-12 16:19:38 UTC

Yeah the just about managing, that’s why I hate progressive taxation systems

2019-05-12 16:20:04 UTC

That and the unfairness obviously

2019-05-12 16:20:33 UTC

The system is setup for abuse

2019-05-12 16:20:39 UTC

Intentional

2019-05-12 16:20:41 UTC

If you’re earning something just above the bracket you do worse than people just sitting doing fuck all

2019-05-12 16:21:10 UTC

Honestly, see if the tories were real conservatives and not some bs centrist party, I reckon we wouldn’t have as bad a problem

2019-05-12 16:22:07 UTC

Problem is that it’s no longer frowned upon to not work, it’s incentivised. If you’re able to work and do not seek work and take benifits, after a certain amount of time those should be removed

2019-05-12 16:23:21 UTC

so, they just give welfare to people without that person having to prove they're somehow disabled and can't work?

2019-05-12 16:24:33 UTC

Well if they’re able to work they should have a transition period surely before you don’t get anything

2019-05-12 16:24:37 UTC

man you don't have to tell me @Jamie

2019-05-12 16:24:39 UTC

@Dust I'm from a lower middle class family myself lol you're not the only one

2019-05-12 16:24:47 UTC

I worked for the DWP for about 6 months

2019-05-12 16:25:13 UTC

if anything has made me suicidal in my life, working for the DWP is it

2019-05-12 16:25:22 UTC

Fuck working in that

2019-05-12 16:25:49 UTC

That’ll be more hassle than it’s worth being there

2019-05-12 16:25:55 UTC

seeing all these jobseekers claims for Muhammad Mohammad and his 8 wives and 26 kids, never worked a day in his life getting £35k in benefits plus housing benefit and child benefit

2019-05-12 16:25:58 UTC

fml

2019-05-12 16:26:59 UTC

there was a girl that had been claiming benefits that got forced to take the job processing claims that was literally worse doing the job than she was claiming dole - the scheme was literally called "better off in work"

2019-05-12 16:27:04 UTC

it's fucking ridiculous lol

2019-05-12 16:27:20 UTC

Dwp?

2019-05-12 16:27:21 UTC

It’s broken in this country, really is

2019-05-12 16:27:28 UTC

department for work and pensions

2019-05-12 16:27:28 UTC

Department for work and pensions

2019-05-12 16:27:35 UTC

it's the government arm that deals with welfare

2019-05-12 16:27:41 UTC

doesn't sound sustainable.

2019-05-12 16:28:02 UTC

Oh we just call it department of welfare in canada

2019-05-12 16:28:37 UTC

it falls under department of social services here

2019-05-12 16:29:11 UTC

Welfare really should just be a short term thing allowing people to get back up on their feet, the fact the government has made it so that people can depend on it is horrendous really

2019-05-12 16:29:32 UTC

So many years of labour, then the tories failing to improve it, universal credit is just pffftt

2019-05-12 16:29:51 UTC

Ahh safety nets, they all need a maximum weight load. And everyone always ignores it

2019-05-12 16:30:12 UTC

welfare in the UK is pretty much a career choice

2019-05-12 16:30:17 UTC

which is fucking shameful tbh

2019-05-12 16:30:28 UTC

Welfare has no reason to exist. The government merely uses it to incentivise laziness and obedience for "free stuff"

2019-05-12 16:30:34 UTC

That's fucking ridiculous.

2019-05-12 16:30:44 UTC

It is a career choice in Canada aswell lmao

2019-05-12 16:30:53 UTC

That’s the sad bit dust, but there’s no one out there who will change that

2019-05-12 16:31:00 UTC

I work fucking hard to make reasonable money
