@Nemets - That's a wholly interesting story. I'm volunteering Saturday, and the man with whom I talked seemed to be elated that I wanted to volunteer. It's a great way for us to network.

Getting involved in community organizations like Kiwanis, Rotary, Lions, Elks, Moose, Eagles, Knights of Columbus, Volunteer Firefighters, Trail Conservation clubs, local historical societies etc. beyond gaining influence, building cohesive, anti-fragile community, and being fun, also are usually first stops for people running for State House. I have met several over the years at events my family is involved in.

And you never know where even US Senate critters will appear. Living in Iowa, a few years back, still a leftist, Koch bros shill Joni Ernst interrupted my pizza buffet experience.
