My local masonic temple seems to mostly be a venue, had weddings, concerts etc there

My Great Grandfather was they last guy in our family to be a committed Mason. I think the Masons might be just a wee tad irrelevant. Better they join us than we join them. And I imagine they will. It's a shame to lose all that ceremonialism though.

@Nemets Not that I am acquainted with. I have never been all that focused on that. I read some stuff about the beginnings of it in the 18th century, but I don't really remember it. But in the small town where I live there is a very, very old building where, presumably, they meet. It's an extremely old order dating back to the 1820s. I should educate myself.

@Nemets You may or may not remember the radio/TV sitcom entitled Amos and Andy, in which the character of George Stevens, aka Kingfish, was the leader of the Black Masons in Chicago. This was a hilarious show with an all-Black cast. The NAACP bought up all the rights to it in the late 1960s but you can find it on Youtube. It is a must see. All the stereotypes back then are still perfectly valid.

@TMatthews I observe the mid-terms with a good bit of fear. Here in Georgia we have a hard-right White man named Kemp running against radical Communist Black woman named Stacey Abrams; a Black with a Jewish last name. (((Shudder))). The race is very close. In my county there are very, very few Abrams supporters, but Atlanta is cuckoo in the nest.

Yeah masonry is probably, technically, a serious Catholic violation, but seeing as the church has gone to complete shit & most masonry is low level collaboration I dont personally have an issue with it
