Funny thing is, a lot of the original structure of the cathedral is intact. It was designed to withstand being burnt down and the wooden parts rebuilt, the people who designed believed a fire was inevitable if it stood for long enough.

Apparently not. All signs point to no. But I hope I'm wrong. They put the call out for a competition for the renovation design, and considering the state of the french government and the prolific calls for modernizing the design, that's what I expect to happen.
I am an atheist, and I find the very concept of "modernising" it vile in the extreme. I can only imagine what the devout there think.
They want to turn a wonder of the world into fucking modern art, that's worse than it not being rebuilt at all.
If hypothyroidism had not taken my anger from me I would be struggling to control my blood pressure at this moment.
I would be experiencing a rage-induced blood pressure spike that would border on dangerous. Instead, I just wonder how this could be even seriously suggested.
