Hotwheels is an idiot when it comes to Opsec. It was never good to begin with. Also his administratorship was characterized by a crapton of hidden files on servers among them a list of IPs a spammer he was in contact with was using over Hola's wannabe Onion router.

This was construed as HW openly violating the privacy agreement. So Yes: He was always whoring himself out to the press in contrary to the people who are leaving him behind.

@Joe the boomer: Also did my thing on fedi.

I mentioned the hidden file thing, because it also contained a lot of private information about Hotwheels himself and every confirmed post. One of them was showing how he had a huge distaste for /pol/. Sadly, this one wasn't archived.

Hungary is voting in local elections today.

My prediction: Fidesz sweeps everything, including Budapest. The left opposition's brilliant platform of "Viktor Orbán is a big meanie" is going to fail like the other half-dozen times they tried it.

Hungarians have long memories. They remember how the previous leftist administrations let Budapest and other cities rot. Pre-Fidesz, Budapest was so poor that it couldn't even afford to maintain buildings, which were falling apart. In fact, one of my friends told me that the prime minister before Orbán, Ferenc Gyurcsány, straight up stole E.U. development money that was intended to refurbish apartment buildings, inadvertently giving birth to Budapest's "ruin pub" scene (because the buildings were so unfit for habitation that people bought them up cheap and turned them into bars).

Under Orbán and István Tarlós (the Fidesz-backed independent incumbent mayor), Budapest was able to repair its buildings—repaint them, even, so the city looks beautiful now—and modernize its aging transportation infrastructure. Under Tarlós, the Budapest Metro even opened a new line.

The opposition has tried to make hay of a sex scandal involving the Fidesz mayor of Győr (who was caught using prostitutes), but the problem is that people don't vote for Fidesz for moral reasons (though the party's strong nationalist stance certainly helps). Most Hungarians aren't even that religious. Fidesz is popular because it's the only party with a strong stand on pocketbook issues: fixing roads and railways, providing tax credits for families etc. The left opposition let people starve and sold off the country's infrastructure to foreigners when they were in power, and everyone knows they'll do the same again if they win.

The left opposition doesn't have a positive vision for Hungary. All they have are whiny complaints about the "rule of law." That's why they're going to lose.

I think it will be closer than you think. I predict Tárlos winning by less than 5 points. Many of the young liberals don't know or remember why Gyurcsány is hated and have no memory of who Demszky Gábor was.

2019-10-13 13:46:38 UTC

fair

2019-10-13 13:46:59 UTC

but the liberal media claims that Fidesz is seriously threatened are overblown

2019-10-13 13:55:14 UTC

They also told the older liberals to either march in line with Gyurcsány and Karácsony or gtfo for being traitors to the cause

2019-10-13 13:55:59 UTC

Some of them did, and they will either not vote or vote for Puzsér

2019-10-13 13:57:15 UTC

Puzsér is an interesting wildcard. He's an honest person with a noble project, but he is not a politician and that caps his maximum %
