2018-11-11 05:14:14 UTC

I can't spell in French to save my life

2018-11-11 05:14:27 UTC

But I can speak it well, I lived in Montreal for a while when I was a kid

2018-11-11 05:14:31 UTC

@Alexander Pechorin too bad there aren't a lot of maoists among them

2018-11-11 05:14:41 UTC

Geez all these polyglots

2018-11-11 05:14:43 UTC

I took years of French

2018-11-11 05:14:48 UTC

2018-11-11 05:14:59 UTC

@Grossly Incandescent you're in deep autism territory friend

2018-11-11 05:15:04 UTC

2018-11-11 05:15:12 UTC

@Jacob A lot of language pedagogy in the US is just terrible

2018-11-11 05:15:13 UTC

Goddamn

2018-11-11 05:15:22 UTC

LOPF 2019 will be held entirely in reconstructed Proto-Indo-European

2018-11-11 05:15:25 UTC

Right?

2018-11-11 05:15:26 UTC

YES

2018-11-11 05:15:31 UTC

Obvi

2018-11-11 05:15:34 UTC

Can confirm

2018-11-11 05:15:41 UTC

ya it's pretty bad

2018-11-11 05:15:44 UTC

Are you even white if you can't speak Sindarin?

2018-11-11 05:15:46 UTC

I’m pretty good at Spanish, just because I loved the idea of learning a second language as a kid and it was kind of the default in the US. I’ve learned some Latin, German, and Greek for fun more recently.

2018-11-11 05:15:47 UTC

you'll never learn by filling in blanks

2018-11-11 05:15:53 UTC

you have to learn to think in sentences

2018-11-11 05:16:04 UTC

Cratos, Reks!

2018-11-11 05:16:18 UTC

That's why even Duolingo is better than the crap they use in school

2018-11-11 05:16:30 UTC

Took three years of Spanish in high school and learned a little, then I moved to California and learned a lot

2018-11-11 05:16:44 UTC

@Jacob you don't learn if you don't practice! Also 1000000000% of American foreign language education is learning vocabulary words and never really stringing thoughts together

2018-11-11 05:16:48 UTC

Duolingo is actually a pretty decent resource to get familiar with sentence structure and vocabulary.

2018-11-11 05:17:02 UTC

it's much more important to know how to make a sentence than knowing how to say "ostrich" in spanish

2018-11-11 05:17:23 UTC

Yeah, exactly.

2018-11-11 05:17:34 UTC

Ostricho

2018-11-11 05:17:40 UTC

probably not even wrong

2018-11-11 05:17:44 UTC

Lol

2018-11-11 05:17:48 UTC

ya I agree with all that

2018-11-11 05:18:15 UTC

@YourFundamentalTheorum Unfortunately you are right. I think at some point they will eclipse the Jews in cultural power. We often forget their ascendancy.

2018-11-11 05:18:26 UTC

the only word I know in Polish is usta

2018-11-11 05:18:32 UTC

Because of veggie tales

2018-11-11 05:19:10 UTC

The Vietnamese guy who runs our machine shop said the Chinese are taking over Vietnam by offering people free power, water and cellular in exchange for speaking Chinese instead of Vietnamese

2018-11-11 05:19:14 UTC

I know a few words for miscellaneous objects in Polish, just from a grandfather who would slip in and out of using it.

2018-11-11 05:19:29 UTC

@ophiuchus Dzien dobry

2018-11-11 05:19:36 UTC
