I guess you guys have some expensive equipment in the field
like for reading the eye diagram of the digital transmissions
those are usually costly
Not really in this market...the vast majority of our Xboxes are just big copper splice points...that's about it.
I mean we do have a good number of pair gain systems but they ONLY push phone through them
ah ok, I used to work with that stuff, when I was still in a communication engineering company, I developed on FPGAs, like implementing Modulators and error correction for RF transmission
DSL uses DMT, which is basically several QAMs in a OFDM, and then they have a feedback between Modem and DSLAM to adjust bandwidth on different channels for a given wire to minimize overspeak
I'm not at that level of implementation...I'm largely only involved in transmission. Anyway, did you know that ADSL will work on half a phone line?
but I never worked in DSL myself
IPDSL however shits the bed if you merely look at it wrong
I haven't heard of IPDSL
is that some sort of brand name in the US?
ah seems to be AT&T specific naming
IP-based DSL? To my understanding this is the standard name for the next generation of DSL
ah ok
can you explain it?
ah I found it, IPDSL is ADSL 2 +, double play only
which is the ITU-T G.992.5 standard
Somewhat...A (asynchronus) DSL doesn't use matching bitstreams for data transmission where IPDSL does. To make matters worse IPDSL can be installed using a bonded pair profile so now you not only have one pair of cables in sychrony but FOUR...bonded pair, in this market, is the bane of my existence because I've yet to find two pair of phone lines that are similar in quality
So we do what we can
what speeds do you guys assure the customer of with IPDSL?
So check this out...in our single pair markets 18 Mbps is the absolute fastest we can provide and only if you live within 5k ft of the central office
I had an opportunity to work in a more developed market (i.e. big city) a couple of years back and our full fiber installs were getting 1000 Mbps
yeah the theoretical max for IPDSL is 24 Mbit/s so 18 Mbit/s seems to be close to what is practically achievable with that technology
Alright, bud...good chat. I've gotta get to the 'office' now. I'm neurotic about being on time so I leave 50 minutes early to drive six miles
ah good bye
Hold up a tick...
nice chat yes
I've personally installed 35 Mbps as a single pair service...out of a VRAD of course but still...kinda slow considering my personal connection through the cable company is 425 Mbps
The bonded pair installs have the benefit of a higher top end but I'm fairly confident the top end on that is much better than 100 mbps...that's a copper, two phone line install
Ok, now I'm out!

OMG THAT IS SCARY
@Happy Humble Hermit 👆
Why am I not surprised that this is happening in China?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1WI8BUe9Eg @conker y'all laugh at the dystopia that is less than a decade away. get ready
Oh and... Seems HK called out a revolution
@Happy Humble Hermit also I'm not laughing, I just demand sources, bc the claims are sometimes outlandish ...
but I totally expect such stuff from an officially authoritarian government like china
and the HK people have now a ban on wearing face coverings
so they have some quite interesting solutions
